Mazda 2 (Japan, 1996-present)

Originally called Mazda Demio, the Japanese brand’s model ‘2’ was launched in 1996 in the form of a station wagon, having become a regular small hatchback many years later. The Demio is also known under the names Mazda 121, Mazda Metro and Ford Festiva Mini Wagon, depending on the countries and markets where the car is sold.

The platform used for this car resulted from a project of cooperation between Ford and Mazda that had started in the 1980’s. The Mazda 2 has spawned three generations, the third having won 2008’s title for the World Car of the Year.
