Playboy Motor Car Corporation was founded by Louis Horwitz, Charles D. Thomas, and Norman Richardson, in Buffalo, New York, in 1947. Their aim was the manufacture of a small, around-the- town second car. Playboy was a retractable hardtop convertible little car, of which  only 97 units were produced and none sold to the public. The cars were sent around the country and overseas with a view to finding an investor but no one seemed interested and the company say its demise in 1950, when the assets of the company were auctioned. Two unsuccessful attempts were made to revive the make, one by a Chinese businessman who produced a bigger prototype in 1951 and another by  Alvin Trumbull, a  businessman from Connecticut in 1952.
