Merkur

Merkur, was a brand produced by Ford Motor Company in Germany from 1984 to 1989 to be marketed in the USA and Canada.  Only two models were built and at different plants: first the Merkur XR4Ti, a hatchback version of the Ford Sierra, built by Karmann in Rheine, Germany followed by the Merkur Scorpio, built at Ford’s plant in Cologne, Germany and that  was a modified version of Ford Scorpio. Merkurs were luxury cars that Ford wanted to sell as smaller companion’s to Lincolns but they were not very well accepted in the North American market and the brand was discontinued in 1989. They became quite rare cars but the collector market shows very little interest.
