In 2006 the first compact crossover SUV from Acura, the RDX, arrived to the market. The model was presented in the RD-X prototype version, with the production version being unveiled at the 2006 New York Auto Show.

The RDX took the entry-level crossover SUV spot on the range from the Acura MDX, as the MDX grew in size and price. The RDX is produced in a unique platform, designed to be combined with the advanced four-wheel drive system. Still the model is quite similar to the Honda CR-V.

In 2009 the model received a facelift and now adopts the same grid of the sedan models. Front wheel drive option has also been introduced.
