The McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is ready to take to the track for this season of racing. Technically, the MP4-12C GT3 began its racing career last year, but this is the first year that it is offered to customer teams. The inaugural races for the customer-spec MP4-12C GT3 will be the first VLN race at the Nürburgring and ADAC GT Masters races at the Nürburgring and Oschersleben all on March 31. It will be competing directly against many of the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 cars that we wrote about earlier today.
Ten MP4-12C GT3 cars have been entered into the Blancpain Endurance Series from the teams ART, ASM, Boutsen Energy, Gulf Racing, Molitor Racing, United Autosports, Von Ryan Racing and just for select rounds the JAS team.
Spectators will also be able to see the new car compete in the French GT Championship, FIA GT1, British GT Championship and International GT Open.
“I’m excited that we are so close to seeing the 12C GT3 in its first full race season. The feedback I have received from customers that have already taken delivery of the car is very positive. The 2011 development programme was challenging, but had many highlights. We started with a pole position in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps in the British GT Championship, and ended the race season with a third place finish in Macau, said Andrew Kirkaldy, project manager for McLaren GT.
Customer teams will get support from McLaren engineers, have access to spare parts and have access to the McLaren simulator that is also used by the McLaren Formula 1 Team.
The MP4-12C GT3 is powered by the same twin-turbo V8 and carbon chassis as the road car. The aerodynamics were developed specifically by McLaren GT for the racing car.
McLaren held a testing session for the teams that you can see in the video below.
