The Super Bowl is the biggest television event in the US every year, at least if you look at advertising sales. Volkswagen, Acura and now Chevrolet have already revealed its ads.
Chevrolet is leading the way with five ads during the game, which it published to Facebook today to get the viral word out.
Other makers like Volkswagen, Acura and Kia have also already put their ads on Youtube.
“The Super Bowl is a huge opportunity for Chevrolet to connect with millions of consumers – before, during and after the game – with our ads and digital extensions. At the core of our efforts are great Chevrolet cars and trucks,” said Joel Ewanick, global chief marketing officer, General Motors.
Chevy's first ad plays with the idea that the world will end in 2012. It shows a guy driving out of the rubble in a Chevy pickup with his dog looking at a post-apocolyptic world. He meets up with some buddies who also drive Chevy pickups, but one friend is not there.
The game seems to be very heavy on car commercials. Chevy has five; Volkswagen has two; and Acura and Kia each have one.
Chevy's second ad shows a young man who just graduated from high school who things his parents bought him a new Camaro convertible.
The next one is an advertisement for an advertisement. It shows the band Ok Go in a Chevy Sonic, and it is advertising a video that will go up after the Super Bowl.
The other one is also an ad for the Sonic.
And Chevy's last one shows aliens trying to understand the Volt.
Volkswagen has two ads during the Super Bowl. The first has nothing to do with cars. It is just dogs barking Darth Vader's theme from Star Wars.
The other is a cute ad showing a dog losing weight to chase a car, and there is a tag at the end referencing last year's Darth Vader ad.
Kia has an ad for the Optima with an incredibly creepy elf making a man dream about driving an Optima.
Finally, Acura has an ad for the new NSX that will not be out for another three years. It shows noted American car enthusiasts Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno competing to be the first to buy a new NSX.
