The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and the FIA have created specific braking zones around Le Mans that will be the only areas where the hybrid Audi R18 E-tron QuattroAudi R18 e-tron quattroGermany, 2012 > present8 photos

hybrid will be able to use their electric boost.
The two groups have limited the energy that hybrid cars can put down between braking points to 500 kilojoules. That is the equivalent of 138.9 watt hours.
At Le Mans the ACO and FIA denoted seven points where the drivers will be able to get that amount of energy: the Dunlop Chicane, Forza Motorsport Chicane, Michelin Chicane, Mulsanne corner, Indianapolis corner, Porsche corner and Ford corner.
The hybrid cars will have to use the entire 500kj between each zone. For example, 500kj must all be used between the Dunlop Chicane and Forza Motorsport Chicane. The recuperative braking systems are free to get more energy than that, but only 500kj of power can go to the electric motor or motors between braking points. The extra power can be used for auxillary functions.
