If you saw either of the two Marvel movies last summer, Captain America and Thor, you will have seen that all of the SHIELD members drive Acuras. To continue its relationship with Marvel, Acura is strengthening its partnership and debuting a not-quite-NSX convertible as the Iron Man, Tony Stark's main car. In the Avengers, SHIELD agents will drive the ZDX, MDX, TL and newest RDX.
The automotive star of the movie will undoubtedly be what Acura is calling the Acura Avengers Sports Car. In terms of looks, the car borrows almost everything from the NSX. Due to the convertible bodystyle, the portion of the car behind the doors is different with nacelles behind the head of each occupant. The engine air intake is mounted in the same place but a little lower on this version. The front is almost identical to the new NSX that is coming in a few years. It lacks headlights, but the rest of the front looks just like the new NSX. Acura has not said that it will produce this version of the car. The coupe is its first priority, but by showing it in a big, action movie, Acura will get a lot of interest from people who might not have heard about the new NSX.
Avengers premieres on April 11, and Acura will provide the cars to deliver the film's stars to the premiere. Marvel and Acura have a contest here to allow players to win movie passes, toy cars and more.
