Chris Bangle has been selected for a Lifetime Design Achievement Award by his peers. The award, given by EyesOn Design is voted on by previous winners of the award and is extremely prestigious.
Previous winners include Giorgetto Guigiaro, Bob Lutz and Sergio Pininfarina. An auspicious list if ever we have seen one.
Bangle currently runs his own design studio in Turin, Italy and has worked for Opel, Fiat and BMW. He is perhaps most famous for his controversial designs early this century, including the BMW 7 series and BMW X6.
However, he also oversaw the design of the BMW MINI, Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost which were well received among the car community.
The 2012 Lifetime Design Achievement Award will be presented to Bangle next June at a black tie event during the DIO’s EyesOn Design week of activities, which culminate in the annual automobile design show, held every Father’s Day on the grounds of the lakefront Eleanor & Edsel Ford House, in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan.
