Sterling.
Robbe & Berking sent its silversmiths to BMW to sit in the 760Li and find the best locations for sterling silver embellishments, and BMW designers went to the Robbe & Berking to get a feel for its workshop.
The car has its kidney grill, side trim, V12 emblem, rear trim strip, model designation and exhaust trim made from solid silver-plated parts. The BMW logo in the front and rear are made from solid 925 sterling silver with blue and white enamel. The car is painted Singapore Grey to provide a contrast for silver parts.
Inside, the car has silver inlays on the door handles, silver-plated doorsill plates and all of the interior trim is made from hammered 925 sterling silver. The rest of the interior is covered in Merino leather in Amaro Brown with Opal White piping. The leather covers not only the seats but also the A- and B-pillars, sun visors and below the doorsills. The roof is covered in Amaro Brown Alcantara. It is finished with two silver goblets and a silver carafe in the rear center tunnel.
Because of all of the silver used, the Sterling is the most valuable car that BMW Individual has ever made. The one-off sells for €320,000.
“BMW and Robbe & Berking share far more than a passion for elegant, classic yachts – we apply the same standards to our products: in addition to pure technical utility, pleasing the customer is a foreground consideration,” said Oliver Berking, Robbe & Berking CEO.
This is not the first time that BMW Individual has worked with a luxury goods maker. It has also created one-offs with clothing designer Karl Lagerfeld, watchmaker Girard Perregaux and piano builder Steinway & Sons.
