BMW has unveiled the latest features of its M-range cars for the 2010 spring. New features include the M3 series being fitted with the Auto Start/Stop Function, a Competition package and retrofit options for the BMW M3, new driver systems available for the BMW X5 M and X6 M and finally new M Sport package for the new BMW X5.
According to the German brand the M3’s will be equipped with the Auto Start Stop Function, a technology that switches off the engine automatically when the vehicle stops in traffic or at junctions. This enables more fuel economy, combining with the driving dynamics to which BMW M drivers are used to. For the first time the Start/Stop Function will be equipped together with an automated manual transmission.
In 2010 the BMW M3 will also be available in a competition package, which includes a suspension lowered by some 10 mm and light alloy wheels in the size 9 x 19 inches at the front and Y-spoke design at the rear.
As for the X5 M and X6 M models, for 2010 they can be fitted with the driver assistance systems Side View and Speed Limit Info. The Side View system has two cameras installed in the side of the front bumpers and can be used to observe the intersecting traffic. The Speed Limit Info gives information to the driver about speed limits on the current route he is driving. The system includes a camera installed on the windscreen in the area of the interior mirror which permanently monitors signs at the roadside as well as the variable displays on overhead gantries on motorways and compares this information with the data from the navigation system.
Finally the M Sport Package will also be presented for the new BMW X5 at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. According to BMW, “The M Sport Package is made up of exterior, interior and chassis components which underscore the dynamic potential of the BMW X5”.
