With all of the controversy over the vote for changing EU emissions standards in 2020, it is easy to forget that the EU is on track to meet its CO2 emissions goal for 2015.
From 2011 to 2012, CO2 emissions fell by 3% in Europe to 132.5g/km of CO2. The goal is to cut emissions to 130g/km of CO2 by 2015, and the European Environment Agency believes that the EU will easily hit the figure.
"The average car sold in the EU is now over 20 percent more efficient than a decade ago, which is clearly good news," European Environment Agency Executive Director Hans Bruyninckx.

is ranked lowest at 143g/km of CO2.
There is an ongoing debate in the EU about the next CO2 limit. It had appeared that the limit would be lowered to 95g/km of CO2 for 2020, but recent changes may allow 80% of an automaker’s cars emit 95g/km of CO2 on average, while the remaining 20% could emit an average 130g/km of CO2.
