platform and launching the Nismo name in Europe.
Juke-R
The Juke-R started life in January as a one-off special edition that squeezed the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the GT-R into a Juke. The car proved to be so popular that Nissan is building them to order for €500,000 each.
The production Juke-R is even more powerful than the original one-off with a 545hp tune of the GT-R's V6; the concept had 530hp. The car is not all about power. Nissan added a custom suspension and FIA-approved roll cage to the little truck as well. It accelerates to 100km/h in 3.0 seconds and has a top speed of 275km/h. For the production version, Nissan created a new body kit for the Juke that brings the car closer to the ground and makes it look much more aggressive.
"The Juke-R's bumpers and side sills were redesigned, which is normally a very long process using full size models in clay. However, we managed to condense the development time using full size viewing on our new 3D ready projector and power wall, maintaining a fully digital process while providing a true supercar quality finish to Juke-R," said Darryl Scriven, manager of the Juke-R team.
Nissan has not revealed how many orders it has received for the Juke-R, but it says that it is only building as many cars as it receives orders. Car #1 is completed, and it says car #2 is underway.
Juke Nismo
The Juke Nismo is meant for buyers who want a sporty Juke but cannot afford the €500,000 Juke-R. It uses a new 200ps tune of the Juke's 1.6-liter turbocharged DIG-T engine. It will go on sale in early 2013.
It is available as either a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive model. The front-wheel drive version has a standard six-speed manual and optional CVT. The all-wheel drive version comes standard with the CVT. The two-wheel drive version with manual transmission takes 7.8 seconds to accelerate to 100km/h with a 215km/h top speed, and the all-wheel drive version takes 8.2 seconds with a 200km/h top speed.
Nissan has not homologated the 200ps tune of the engine in Europe yet, but it expects that it will have the same fuel economy and emissions as the other tune of the DIG-T.
The Nismo also gets a more aggressive body kit, 18in wheels and special Nismo parts for the interior. It comes standard with Bluetooth and a satellite navigation system with a touch screen display that also integrates controlling drive settings.
The Juke Nismo is the first Nismo-branded vehicle to be officially offered in Europe. The name comes from Nissan Motorsport, and Nissan says that it will be expanding the performance badge to other vehicles in Europe in the near future.
Nissan has teamed with mobile game developer Gameloft to create "From Paris to Rio, Asphalt 7: Heat" for iOS and Android that will go on sale before the end of the year for $0.99 in the US or €0.79 in Europe.
