A member of the Force India Formula 1 Team has left Bahrain after a Molotov cocktail exploded near the team's car Wednesday night.
Four of the team's mechanics were returning to their hotel on Wednesday night when they inadvertently drove into a skirmish between police and protesters. In the chaos, a molotov cocktail exploded near the car. While no one was injured.
The team has made clear that the mechanics were not targeted for the attack because of their involvement with Formula 1. They were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. The four mechanics will stay in Bahrain through the race weekend. However, another member of the team felt in danger and has decided to leave Bahrain.
Race chairman Zayed R. Alzayani said about the incident, "It was an isolated incident, and my wife was involved too. The protestors were not targeting the cars, they just happened to be there. Nobody was injured. I don't command the police; they know what to do better than I do. I have a race to run."
