The rear bumper cover and vertical portion of the trunk are made to be easily replaceable. Unlike most cars, it does not have a horizontal portion to crush where the bumper meets the fascia. It predicts that it will be 3% cheaper to fix than a Toyota Camry and 27% cheaper to repair than a Nissan Maxima. The lower repair costs will mean lower insurance rates.

“Our analysis shows approximately 19 percent of Fusion collisions involve a rear impact. The new decklid integration panel should reduce repair costs in low-speed rear-end collisions by about 13 percent compared to the 2012 Fusion. This should deliver real savings to drivers in densely populated markets where parking can be a challenge," said Larry Coan, Ford Damageability Engineer.
