is adding its 3-Wet painting process to four factories worldwide in 2013. The process reduces CO2 emissions up between 15% and 25% and reduces volatile organic compound emissions by 10%. It will be added to two factories in the US, one in Spain and one in China.
The 3-Wet process uses more concentrated pigments and a resin mixture with fewer volatile organic emissions. The process is also about 25% faster than the previous painting method. Three layers of paint are applied before the previous one had dried. It also does not require the paint to be cured in an oven, which also reduces electricity costs. The paint remains as durable as a traditional painting process, according to Ford.
Ford already had eight factories worldwide that used the 3-Wet process. It plans to have all of its factories equipped with the new painting process within the next four years.
