Ford Mustang 'Eleanor' From 'Gone in 60 Seconds' Sells for $1.1 Million

from the 2000 remake of "Gone in 60 Seconds" sold for $1.1 million at Mecum's Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis, Indiana. As in any film, multiple Eleanors were built, but the car that sold was used for close-ups and publicity photos. 

The Eleanors were based on 1967 Mustangs. Contrary to popular belief, famous tuner Chip Foose was not responsible for the look of the Eleanor; it was another designer named Steve Stanford.

The body modifications were initially mocked up in wood and clay, and the actual pieces were in fiberglass created by Cinema Vehicle Services.

The modifications include four-wheel disc brakes, a completely new front suspension using coilovers. A 351 cubic inch (5.7-liter) V8 with 400hp and nitrous injection replaced the original 289 cubic inch (4.7-liter V8). The larger engine required a custom front sub-frame. It also includes a fire extinguisher, larger tachometer and nitrous injector button in the gearshift.

Eleanor was responsible for launching the retro-mod style for muscle cars. The look attempts to bring the performance of American muscle cars up to modern standards. While these cars were always fast, their ability to turn and brake were poor at the time and horrible today.
