Hyundai Group Chief Designer Peter Schreyer Wins 2013 Golden Steering Wheel

He rose to prominence by creating the Audi TT

Schreyer has been designing cars for decades and started his career at Volkswagen

Group Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer has been awarded the 2013 Golden Steering Wheel from the Bild am Sonntag and Autobild magazines in Germany. He is only the second designer to win the award in its history.

The Golden Steering Wheel award is given to important members of the automotive community each year for the last 31 years. The only other designer to win the award was Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1995. The 2012 winner was VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piëch.

“I am exceedingly proud to receive this important award. It is a great honor for me personally, and at the same time it is recognition for our design teams all around the world who for years have been delivering such excellent work,” said Schreyer.

Schreyer will be given the award at a ceremony in Berlin on November 12.

Since hiring him, Kia has doubled its global sales, and ten of his designs for Kia have received Red Dot design awards. In 2013 he was promoted to Chief Design Officer for the entire Hyundai Group and will now be responsible for Hyundai design as well.

The Golden Steering Wheel is voted on by 40 jury members selected by Bild am Sonntag and Autobild and includes celebrities, race drivers, engineers, designers and journalists.
