Johan de Nysschen discussed the possibility of four new cars at the North American International Auto Show, including two premium models, the Q30Q30Infiniti Q30Japan, 2014 > present hatchback and a crossover.

Nissan and Daimler are co-developing a new platform that will underpin Infiniti’s compact crossover in 2017. Not much else is know about the car at the moment.

The forthcoming Infiniti Q30 in 2015 also uses a Daimler platform, but in that case it is from Mercedes’ compacts. It will be Infiniti’s attempt to appeal more to European buyers.

The company is also planning two more premium entries. One car will be a flagship sedan and the other will be a two-seat sports car. The cars will hit the market sometime between 2016 and 2019. Infiniti wants to set itself apart by being a brand with challenging styling to take on the established look of German rivals.

“It will not be mid-engined like the Emerg-eEmerg-eInfiniti Emerg-eJapan, 2012 > 201212 photos
, nor a hybrid. We’ve got to use the powertrain in more than one car for economies of scale reasons, so it can’t be mid-engined,” said de Dysschen.

De Nysschen also confirmed that there would not be production versions of the Emerg-e and Essence.
