plans begin selling the C-X75 supercar late next year. Journalists were recently invited to see the car and found out that the car is no longer using a turbine to charge batteries for electric motors but will instead use a supercharged and turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 500hp with a 10,000rpm redline, and in addition to the engine, it will still have an electric motor mounted to each axle.
The C-X75 will use a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, and the engine's power will go to the rear wheels. The hybrid system will work in parallel or series mode. That means that the engine can either work as a generator to charge the batteries that feed the electric motors like in the Chevrolet Volt, or the system will provide power in addition to the engine.
Jaguar claims that the car will accelerate to 60mph in 3.0 seconds and have a top speed in excess of 200mph. The electric system will be able to run on its own and provide 37 miles of pure electric range. Jaguar says that even in the electric mode the car will accelerate to 60mph in 6.0 seconds.
Jaguar will build just 200 C-X75s, and they will cost around $1 million.
