Jaguar's journey from New York to Los Angeles, a journey of over 2800 miles, in a diesel XF is a success. Over eight days, the 2.2 liter diesel XF traveled at an average speed of 53mph. The journey only took four fuel stops and with an average fuel usage of 62.9 miles per gallon.
"This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what's been achieved and is a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car," said Paul Alcock, XF Project Manager.
The XF used was right-hand drive and registered in the UK. It is capable of accelerating to 60mph in 8.0 seconds with a top speed of 140mph.
It is still unclear what Jaguar had to gain from driving the car across the US. The XF diesel is not on sale in the US, at least not yet. Perhaps Jaguar was testing the market to see if Americans are ready for a diesel executive sedan.
