Jaguar is introducing two new engines at the Auto Salon China in Beijing that it will offer around the world. The first is a new turbocharged 2.0l, four-cylinder engine, and the other is a new supercharged 3.0l, V6 that will find its way into the new Jaguar F-Type.
The supercharged V6 is closely mechanically linked to Jaguar's current V8. It has 340hp and 450Nm of torque that will be in the XF and XJ, and it will have 380hp and 460Nm in the coming F-Type. The engine has an aluminum engine block with four valves per cylinder and twin overhead cams. It also has dual independent variable cam timing and direct injection. The V6 has a higher compression ratio compared to the V8. The dual vortex Roots-type supercharger is mounted in the center of the V with a water-cooled intercooler. The boost control is handled by a Bosch engine management system that Jaguar says boosts efficiency by 20%. When it is released, the F-Type will have 127hp per liter giving it the highest specific output of any Jaguar. The engine comes with start/stop tech with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The engine will be available in the UK, Europe, North America and China.
The other new engine is the turbocharged 2.0l four-cylinder with 240hp and 340Nm that will be in the XF and XJ that is linked to the same eight-speed transmission used with the supercharged V6. Peak power is produced at 5,500rpm. The engine weighs just 138kg. The turbocharger runs at a low inertia with a thin-walled exhaust manifold that lets the car warm up faster to be more efficient sooner.
The engine will be available in the XF in Europe, North America and China; it will be the in XJ in the UK, Europe and China. It will replace the naturally-aspirated 3.0l V6 in these markets.
Both engines will be available in Jaguar's cars in 2013.
