to benefit Royal British Legion. The distance is based on driving five miles for every British soldier killed in Afghanistan. The drive will not just be on motorways though. It began at the Top Gear test track with Murray Walker waving the start flag. From there the car will drive around a lap of Monaco and the Nürburgring over ten days.

“The support we have received for this event has been extraordinary, leading companies such as Jaguar have backed us, the military has been excellent and the British public has been amazing,” said Warrant Officer Benn Laider.

The car is decorated in camouflage and is driven by Corporal Martin Staples. Victims of IEDs will also ride as passengers during certain parts of the drive.

The route ends at the Wings & Wheels Air show at Dunsfold on Sunday August 27th.

There are 50 cars driving around Europe as part of the same charity to raise money for soldiers.
