“We are absolutely looking at different things in that field and we are very active behind the scenes in the development of these systems and how it fits into our profile,” said Steve Bartoli, Chrysler’s Asia-Pacific product planning manager.

Electric motors are great for low-speed uses because they provide maximum torque immediately. However, the biggest concern about hybrids for off-road vehicles is making sure that they are protected against water submersion and hard hits from rocks that can occur.

Bartoli says that Jeep is ““evaluating new ways to integrate hybrid power specifically for serious off-road applications.”
