John Lennon's Blue 1965 Ferrari 330GT Being Auctioned in July

in Azzuro Blue, to its catalog for its Goodwood auction on July 12.

Lennon was 25 by the time he got his driver's license in 1965, already married and a father. The Beatles had just released "Ticket to Ride." It was the band's ninth #1 hit on the music charts in the US.  

Local luxury auto dealers crammed outside of Lennon's house in hopes that he would chose one of their cars. He could have chosen anything, but he bought a right-hand driver Ferrari 330GT 2+2 in Azzuro Blue with a blue interior, which is quite possibly the best first car ever. He paid £6,500, over £100,000 in today's money and kept the car until October 1967 to cover over 20,000 miles. 

The car traded hands several times after that, but eventually it showed up at the Ferrari dealer in Modena, Italy, in the late 80s. It has been restored since then. 

A 330GT 2+2 is a rare car in its own right with only 500 being made. The sale will include restoration documents and letters from Lennon confirming that this was his car. 

Bonham's estimates that the car will sell for between £180,000 and £220,000 ($277,000 and $340,000).
