are coming next year. The concept for the Gallardo successor is planned to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Sales will begin sometime in 2014.
Rumors about the new car indicate that it will use a carbon fiber and aluminum space frame, instead of a monocoque. It will be slightly longer with a longer wheelbase than the current Gallardo but width will stay roughly the same. The extra wheelbase length will mean more interior space.
The decision to use a space frame instead of a monocoque comes from the platform being planned from the beginning to also be used for the R8. It means that they can share many components between them but can be altered more easily between the two cars. The Lamborghini can be longer than the R8 but still share all of the mechanical components. The platform is also lighter than the current aluminum monocoque.
The Gallardo successor will get a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body with some aluminum panels. The goal is for the car to weight less than the 1500kg current Gallardo.
Power will come from an upgraded version of the current 5.2-liter V10 to comply with EU6 emissions regulations. It will be available with either a six-speed manual or Audi's seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The early versions will all be all-wheel drive, but rear-wheel drive versions will be added later.
It is just a few months until we see the car in Frankfurt.
