up the hill at Goodwood in July. It will also bring some of the historic Can-Am cars from its collection to race up the hill.
McLaren dominated the early era of Can-Am racing and won the series championship from 1967 to 1971. The series is famous for the crazy cars that it spawned. The cars themselves had to be built to a specific size, but there was no limit on engine displacement, power or aerodynamics. Some of the famous cars from series include the Porsche 917/30Porsche 917/30Germany, 1973 > present1 photo

that had a fan mounted on the rear that sucked the car into the track.
The Can-Am is based on the 12C GT3, but is not made to meet any racing series' rules. The engine produces 630hp, 137hp more than the GT3 racecar. It also gets a special aerodynamic package that increases downforce by 30% over the GT3 car. The transmission, brakes and wheels are identical to the racecar, but the Can-Am does get air conditioning. The Can-Am is not street legal.
The Can-Am was originally built as a one-off concept for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last year, but after high demand, it decided to put the car into production with a limited run of 30 cars worldwide.
McLaren released a video celebrating its Can-Am history and the 12C Can-Am that you can see below.
