McLaren Opening 8 Dealers in China by 2014

McLaren is growing from a racing company to a real auto company

McLaren is continuing to expand its dealer network by opening 8 new dealers in China by 2014. McLaren believes that it can sell 100 to 150 MP4-12Cs in its first year in China and grow from there.

Its first four dealers will be in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu and will be opened in mid-2013.

McLaren has been growing its dealers worldwide since the launch of the MP4-12C. One of the recent large expansions was into the US. In the past year, McLaren has opened 35 dealers in 19 markets. Showrooms in Hong Kong and Singapore are coming later this year.

It is also planning to introduce more models in the future to become a larger sports car maker. A convertible version of the MP4-12C is planned sometime in 2013, and a successor to the F1 also appears to be in the planning stages.

"We chose the high brand-building markets such as Japan, and once we get that established we'll start expansion. We don't have enough production; that's why we don't have China from the start," said Ian Gorsuch, McLaren's Asia Pacific director.
