. The Can-Am played on the brand’s racing success in the United States in the 70s, and the new 12C GT SprintMcLaren MP4-12C GT SprintUnited Kingdom, 2014 > present makes a track-only 12C a little more accessible, even at its £195,000 base price after UK taxes.

The 12C GT Sprint is made to only be on the track. McLaren GT takes each car from McLaren Automotive and adds modern systems like Brake Steer and an active airbrake. It also works with the buyer to set up the chassis to his/her exact specifications. All cars get a 40mm drop in ride height and race-spec brakes.

The carbon fiber monocoque is the same, but all the creature comforts have been removed to keep weight down. It does get an FIA-spec roll cage for safety, fire extinguishing system, a digital instrument display, composite racing seat with six-point harnass and HANS connection. The air conditioner from the standard car is carried over for driver comfort.

The body has a more aggressive front bumper with larger air openings, GT3-inpsired hood with radiator exit ducts and louvers to improve downforce, 19in wheels with Pirelli tires and on-board air jack.

The engine is the same 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 tuned to 617hp (625ps) and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The cooling system gets an upgrade to handle track use.

“The 12C GT Sprint has been designed as a true track-focused racer, offering increased levels of downforce, grip and durable track performance,” said Chris Goodwin, chief test driver.

Buyers who want more can add options like a carbon fiber rear wing and front splitter, polycarbonate windshield or a choice of colors.
