is partnering with the company at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in January.

The Mercedes-branded Pebble interacts with the car’s diagnostic systems and sends them to the watch. The version being shown at CES is just a prototype, but Mercedes says that it is working with Pebble to create a production version.

The Mercedes Pebble is based around the Digital DriveStyle that communicates data from the car to the watch. It is meant to be a second screen that is always visible compared to the user’s smartphone.

When away from the car, the watch shares fuel level, door-lock status and vehicle location. Once the driver gets into the car, the watch uses vehicle-to-vehicle communication to share information on upcoming hazards like accidents, road construction and stalled vehicles. It can also control the in-car media system.

Mercedes is not saying when it will launch a production version of its Pebble smart watch.
