showed its concept for the next generation of golf cart. It calls the vehicle the Mercedes-Benz Vision Golf Cart, and Mercedes’ designers took suggestions from golf players on what they wanted for the ultimate golf cart.
“I was very inspired by the idea of designing a golf cart, giving it a new shape and new sorts of meaning. Why not treating a golf cart like a car, and making it a 'Golf Car',” said Gorden Wagener, Vice President of Design at Daimler.
The Vision Golf Cart is meant to combine the needs of golfers with the looks of a Mercedes. It features the central diamond grill from modern Mercedes cars. Power comes from an electric motor that is kept charged with a solar cell on the roof.
Instead of having a steering wheel, there is a joystick on the center console, which means that either the left or right occupant can drive the cart. The center console has a multimedia touchscreen that docks with Apple i-devices and USB and has Bluetooth. The screen also controls an air conditioning system and head-up display that displays the golf course’s layout, score or weather. There is also a “fore button” that emits a loud warning if a player hits a misplaced shot.
The seats also include the Airscarf from Mercedes’ convertibles that blows hot or cold air over the necks of passengers. The doors are easily removable and click into the body. It has cargo room enough for two golf bags.
The design and creation of the car was done at Mercedes’ Advanced Design Center in Carlsbad, California.
