You won't certainly be able to say that the new Vision Maybach 6 hasn't a strong stance. With almost six metres long and gullwing doors Mercedes is hinting the return of the luxury upmarket brand Maybach, making an entrance through the big door. The electric-powered luxury coupé was unveiled at the Monterey Car Week in California with amazing 750hp.
Although inspired by the extravant look of the early 1900s aero coupés the Vision Maybach 6 showcases the German brand's plans to build a range that can rival for example the new
Rolls-Royce Wraith. The car has been designed by Mercedes’ main studio in Stuttgart leaded by the company’s head of design, Gorden Wagener. Featuring several reinterpreted classic Maybach design themes, it also incorporates current Mercedes design elements which have been previewed on the
IAA concept, shown at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
A reinterpretation of the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with its fine, vertical struts accentuates the front end. The grille was inspired by a pinstriped suit. The radiator grille rests on two aerodynamically shaped supports on the outer right and left of the bumper.
The gullwing luxury coupé with a long bonnet features Mercedes-Benz’s traditional three-pointed star emblem at the front. At the back the design is very similar to the one from the Mercedes IAA concept, with a boat-tail shape. The goal is to handle the coupé excellent aerodynamic characteristics without needing an additional spoiler.
The distinctive 24-inch wheels are a development of the aero rim from the Concept IAA (Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile). A transparent shield in the vehicle colour provides a view of the aluminium spokes behind it.
The one-off coupé also showcases the new electric drive system which is being developed by Mercedes in order to create a range of new zero-emission models. With four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, it features all-wheel drive and a combined output of 750hp. The shallow underfloor battery has a usable capacity of approximately 80kWh. This not only allows performance characteristics typical of a sports car, with acceleration from 0-1 00km/h in under four seconds, top speed electronically governed at 250km/h, but also a range of over 500 kilometres according to the NEDC.
Inside Mercedes the describes the Vision Maybach 6 cabin as a 360deg lounge. It offers comfortable space up to foour passangers in a 2+2 layout. The concept also features a wraparound dashboard and seats that monitor the vital functions of their occupants.
