Classic will be racing some classic pre-war sports cars in the International Edelweiss Mountain Award Rossfeld Berchtesgaden Hill Climb starting in September 2013, but the event is staging a warm-up on September 29, 2012. The race is meant for historic cars from the 20s to the 70s and especially meant to recall the European Hill Climb Championship that had strong periods in the 30s and the 60s.

Mercedes and driver Rudolf Caracciola won the European Hill Climb Championship from 1930 to 1932.

Jochen Mass will drive a W06 Mercedes SSK at the event's warm-up lap. The car is a 1928 SSK 27/170/225 hpSSK 27/170/225 hpMercedes-Benz SSK 27/170/...Germany, 1928 > 19336 photos
. It uses a 7.0-liter supercharged six-cylinder engine that produces 225hp with a max speed of 192km/h. The SSK entered production in 1928, and Caracciola won a hill climb in Gabelbach with the new car.

Mercedes improved the car in 1930 and 1931 with lower weight and more power. The 1931 car was the first non-Italian car ever to win the Mille Miglia.

The International Edelweiss Mountain Award Rossfeld Berchtesgaden Hill Climb will be staged on the alpine roads between Berchtesgaden to Obersalzberg located around Salzburg, Austria.
