2012 Aygo

Toyota has a new Aygo for 2012 that grows the little car just slightly but also improves its emissions and offers new styling.

The new Aygo is 15mm longer than the previous year. The new front end has a Prius-like nose with big headlights and optional, low-mounted LED daytime running lights. The new Aygo will be offered in three- and five-door versions. it comes standard with 14in steel wheels but 14in alloys are an option.

Inside there is more leather than before. The steering wheel and gearshift lever are both leather-covered. Toyota also claims the Aygo is quiter than before.

Toyota is offering either a standard manual transmission or a MultiMode Transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. There are two stereo options. The basic version is just a 35 Watt stereo with a CD player and either two or four speakers. The other stereo option has Bluetooth and a USB port.

The Aygo has the latest version of Toyota's 998cc engine with compression up to 11.0:1. With the five-speed manual the engine produces 68hp and 93Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is now 4.4l/100km and the emissions is rated at 102g/km.

Toyota is also offering an Eco version of the Aygo with a longer 3rd gear and low rolling resistance tires. This version boosts fuel economy to 4.3l/100km and emissions drop to 99g/km.

The MultiMode transmission has Economy, Manual and Reverse gears. Economy is a fully automatic mode to have the best fuel economy, and Manual lets drivers use the paddle shifters. With the MultiMode the Aygo is rated at 4.5l/100km fuel economy and 104g/km of CO2 emissions.

The Aygo will be available in the spring of 2012 in Europe.
