Nissan has revealed a concept for a compact hatchback for Europe that it calls the Invitation. The little car looks a lot like a heavily reworked version of the Versa that is already available in the US. Nissan intends the car to join the Micra and Juke in Europe. The Invitation will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 8.
The car is a tightly-styled compact, five-door hatchback. The front has LED headlights with lit eyebrows. The front grill cuts into the headlight area. There are low-mounted LED running lights and mirror-mounted turn signals. The side of the car has a prominent crease that goes from the middle of the front doors and ties into the tail lights. The rear has a diffuser and integrated exhaust outlets, and the tail lights have a fin-like design.
"The name we have given to this concept is self-explanatory... the key benefit of this compact car is to be inviting. It is inviting thanks to its sensuous exterior design and generous and comfortable interior space, cleverly packaged within compact overall dimensions. It is Nissan's invitation to buyers in the compact hatchback segment.," said Francois Bacon Deputy Division Manager of Product Planning at Nissan.
Nissan is intending for the car to have a sub-100g/km of CO2 emissions rating. It is also taking its Around View Monitor from its large SUVs and placing it into this small B-segment hatchback.
