trademark filing is raising some eyebrows. It has trademarked the name "R-Hybrid," including what the emblem would look like. What makes it all so intriguing is that it is the same font for the "R" that Nissan uses for the GT-RNissan GT-R Gen.2Japan, 2009 > present25 versions

. Given Nissans work on high performance electric vehicles like the 2014 ZEOD racecar, it seems logical that Nissan might be working on a performance hybrid. Could this possibly be used for a GT-R hybrid?
The "R" in the R-Hybrid logo is the same two-tone design and font as the "R" in Nissan's GT-R logo. To lend more credence that it might be for a GT-R vehicle, the "R" is a serifed typeface, which means that it has the small lines attached to the letters used to differentiate letters. However for Nissan's SE-R vehicles, the "R" is san-serif.
The question then becomes what is this vehicle for and when will we see it? Nissan could be developing the next generation GT-R now and planning a hybrid version. It could be for a racing model as well, the way Porsche create the 911 GT3 R HybridPorsche 911 GT3 R HybridGermany, 2010 > present4 photos
first for racing. The final option, perhaps least likely, is that in order to add power to the Nismo GT-R that is confirmed to be in development, its engineers have opted to add a hybrid to the twin-turbo engine.
