Opel is introducing a new twin-turbo, 2.0 liter diesel engine in all variants of its flagship Insignia sedan. It will also offer an all-wheel drive version with Opel's HiPerStrut system and the Insignia OPC's front suspension.
The BiTurbo 2.0 liter CDTI produces 195hp and 400Nm of torque. In the Insignia it uses 4.9l/100km of diesel and makes 129g/km of CO2. The front-wheel drive Insignia with a six-speed manual transmission and this engine accelerates to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds. All manual versions of the 2.0 liter CDTI come with start/stop technology standard.
The engine uses sequential turbos of different sizes to give constant power with little turbo lag. The small turbo spins up at 1250rpm, both turbos work in the mid-range and only the larger turbo is working at the top of the rev range. The turbo system is also novel because it uses two different intercoolers. The smaller turbo uses a liquid-cooled unit, while the larger turbo has a conventional air-cooled intercooler.
Opel's SuperSport chassis will be optionally available later this spring. The package is only available with the all-wheel drive model. It combines adaptive damping, Brembo brakes and HiPerStrut on the front suspension. These options had previously only been available together on the 325hp Insignia OPC.
The other available options include radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control, which also integrates Following Distance Indication, Forward Collision Alert and Collision Imminent Braking.
