after a launch event in London last night. The new truck is now built from an aluminum monocoque and uses lighter engines. , which contributes to improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
"The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle - that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability. However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling," John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.
The new design looks quite similar to the old one. The vehicle is basically the same size as the older one as well. It sits 20mm lower in the lowest suspension mode to aid ingress and egress. It also offers 118mm more legroom.

At launch the Range Rover will be available with four engines - two diesel and two petrol. A diesel hybrid will be added later in 2013. The petrol engines are the 5.0-liter V8 with 375ps and supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 510ps. The diesels are the 3.0-liter V6 with 258ps and 4.4-liter V8 with 339ps. The new 3.0-liter V6 is meant as the replacement for the 4.4-liter in the Land Rover lineup. It weighs 80kg less and gets 37.7mpg imp (7.5l/100km). It emits 196g/km of CO2.
The new Range Rover is all about weight savings. The new monocoque weighs 39% less than the outgoing model. It allows the supercharged 5.0-liter engine to accelerate the big truck to 60mph in 5.1 seconds, which is 0.8 seconds better than the prevoius generation, and use 9% less fuel.
When the diesel hybrid comes, Land Rover is aiming for it to emit 169g/km of CO2.
The new Range Rover is still and Land Rover, and that means off-road capability. It has the second generation of Land Rover's Terrain Response System, and the wading depth, which is the maximum height of water it can drive through, has been increased by 200mm to 900mm. It can tow 3,500kg.
Inside, the new Range Rover is optionally available with an 8in dual-view screen, four-zone climate control, massaging seats, power upper and lower tailgates and more. It also comes with adaptive crusie control, electric power steering with optional park assist, automatic emergency braking, rear traffic detection and surround camera.
The new Range Rover will have its first deliveries in early 2013. Prices start at £71,295 for the Range Rover Vogue 3.0L TDV6 and rise to £98,395 for the Range Rover Autobiography 5.0L Supercharged. Land Rover has not announced pricing for other regions yet.
