first showed the Polo BlueGT with its combination of fuel economy and fun at the Geneva Motor Show. Now it is revealing more about the green hot hatch.
The BlueGT uses a version of VW’s petrol 1.4 TSI engine that has had cylinder deactivation added. When crusing, the BlueGT shuts off two of the four cylinders. This technology means that it gets 4.6l/100km fuel economy and produces 107g/km of CO2 all while still being able to produce 140ps and 250Nm of power. The seven-speed DSG version is even cleaner with 4.5l/100km fuel economy and 105g/km of CO2 emissions. The BlueGT will get to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h.
In addition to the cylinder deactivation, the engine also has stop/start and regenerative braking.
Volkswagen claims that depending how the car is driven, it will save between 0.4l/100km and 1.0l/100km of fuel compared to a standard Polo 1.4 TSI.
To show its more sporty nature, the BlueGT comes with 17in wheels, roof spoiler, rear diffuser, different front bumper, lower side sills, 15mm lower suspension, standard cruise control, sport front seats. The interior also gets special gauges to tell the driver when the cylinder deactivation is working and a tire pressure monitor.
The BlueGT goes on sale in Europe in the 4th quarter of this year and will cost €19,650 in Germany including 19% VAT.
