Porsche has finally confirmed what had been rumored over the last three months: the introduction to its lineup of a small SUV below the successful Cayenne. The new model is expected to arrive to the markets in 2014.
According to Porsche, the Supervisory Board has given green light to the Board of Management to continue undertake the development of a further model series up to series production. The Cajun will be Porsche's fifth model line, which currently includes Cayenne, Cayman, Boxster and 911.
Described as efficient and sporty, the new model, which is being developed under the “Cajun” project name, will expand the Porsche’s SUV segment, the brand’s most successful one.
With the Cayenne already consolidated as the most successful sporty SUV in the premium segment, the “Cajun is expected to create the same positive impact by featuring Porsche characteristics such as light weight, ease of handling and agility.
With the Cajun arriving in 2014, Porsche wishes to attract new and younger customers to the premium brand along with the Boxster.
According to reports the new model will be based on the same platform used on the Audi Q5 and should feature a pair of 3.0-liter V6s, with the normally aspirated version developing 290 horsepower and the twin-turbo unit making 350 hp.
