Just two months after the unveiling of the new 911 generation at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche is revealing the first Cabriolet versions of the 991 series: the Carrera Cabriolet and the Carerra S Cabriolet.
The two Cabriolets have been equipped with exactly the same engine as their Carrera Coupé equivalents. The Carrera Cabrio is powered by a 3.4-litre flat engine generating an output to the rear wheels of 350 hp (257 kW) via a seven-gear manual transmission. The Carrera S Cabrio drives on a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine with 400 hp of output, combined with the same seven-gear manual transmission as standard. Optionally both versions can be equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), a transmission that delivers lower fuel consumption and shorter acceleration times. Both versions feature fuel consumptions lower than ten litres per 100km, which puts them further ahead of their competition in terms of efficiency.
The new 911 Cabriolet follows the same architecture as the Coupé with the new new aluminium-steel body. It further innovates in the roof concept where the roof line of the Coupé model is retained in its entirety. Thanks to an intelligent lightweight design, even including the use of magnesium in the hood, Porsche has ensured less weight and more sportiness, lower fuel consumption and greater comfort. The German brand has also managed to cut the weight of the new Cabrio versions significantly, compared to its predecessors.
According to Porsche the new Cabriolets offer even sportier driving characteristics, greater precision and agility, thanks to the longer wheelbase, the wider front track and the new electro-mechanical power steering.
Launch of the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet will take place in Germany on March 3, 2012. The price tag of the 911 Carrera Cabriolet starts at 100,532 Euros, while the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet starts at 114,931 Euros.
