There is an axiom among exotic car dealers; an entry level exotic is often a second-hand exotic. One must be prudent when shopping the upper echelon used car, sorry make that pre-owned market. There are vast and potentially financially crippling pitfalls when purchasing a used exotic, many of which can have maintenance and repair costs rivaling those of a small business jet. Knowing any previously owned car’s provenance or maintenance history is as important as a thorough PPI or pre-purchase inspection. Roll-Royce is taking some of the risk out of buying six-figure second-hands by offering a factory authorized pre-owned warranty program.
Called “Rolls-Royce Provenance”, each potential pre-owned Roller must meet a certain criteria before being considered for the program. The used Rolls-Royce in question must have been purchased from an authorized dealer, no grey market cars, and it must have a complete service history following the Roll-Royce factory guild lines. Cars that make the cut are inspected, road tested and given compete servicing before being offered to the public.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Director of Sales & Marketing, Jolyon Nash, said, "We are delighted to announce the latest details for Rolls-Royce Provenance. Our customers expect the very best motor cars in the world and we are pleased to be able to offer the same support and peace of mind for approved pre-owned cars that we offer for new vehicles."
The advantages of the Provenance program are numerous. First and foremost, someone else takes the deprecation hit. The new-to-you Rolls-Royce has already been inspected and serviced by Rolls technicians. Rolls-Royce being a conservative company that caters to a conservative cliental doesn’t radically redesign its models from year to year, or decade to decade for that matter. It’s unlikely your neighbors will be unable to tell your pre-owned Phantom from this year’s model. Finally, all Provenance Rolls-Royce motorcars come with a full factory warranty, including 24-hour roadside assistance, for 2 years.
Of course the downside it that Rolls-Royce customers used to custom orders and unlimited options are limited someone else’s preferences and to stock on hand. However, if you’re worried about buying a lemon or want to join the club without paying full price, the Provenance program maybe just the ticket.
