Preview Brazilian Grand Prix: and that’s a wrap!

It started almost nine months ago and throughout the 18 races of the calendar we have seen some of the most exciting races of the past few years. It all ends this weekend in Brazil at the Interlagos Circuit in São Paulo, who will be the venue for the closing Grand Prix of the season.

In the Championship almost everything is decided, Vettel and Red Bull have clinched the titles some races ago but there is still a close fight for second spot in the driver’s championship between Button and Alonso.

Mclaren will want to finish the season on a high note after Hamilton’s win in Abu Dhabi and a win in Brazil would send a sign to Red Bull that they can always count on them in all seasons.

As for Ferrari, the second place in the driver’s championship would be a great reward for a tough season for the Scuderia in terms of team results, with Massa not being able to perform to his standards. In fact the Brazilian is dreaming of at least a podium finish in his home circuit, a fact that would prevent the Brazilian to have a first season without trophies since 2005.

Mark Webber will also be giving it all in an attempt to save a very clumsy season with a win on the final race. This year the Aussie has failed to win a race and was always outperformed by his team-mate, almost making us forget last year’s crusade.

In Mercedes, Schumacher will definitely be willing to overtake his team-mate Rosberg in the standings. To do so the seven-time world champion will have to repeat one of his good performances this year and hope to cut the seven-point gap between him and Rosberg.

In Brazil there will be some drivers willing to prove they deserve the spot on their team for next season. One of those is Vitaly Petrov, that although brings a lot of sponsorship money to the team has pissed-off the team’s management with some criticism to the team during this week. Bruno Senna is yet to guarantee his spot on the team as well and may feel menaced by Romain Grosjean.

In Toro Rosso things weren’t going very well at the beginning of the season, but with improvements on the second half of 2011 Buemi and Alguersuari might have clinched there spot on the Scuderia for 2012. Still they will try to perform well in Interlagos, sensing the shadows of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne right behind them just waiting for an opportunity to seat on Helmut Marko’s Red Bull junior team.

Force India will be defending it’s almost safe sixth position in the manufacturer’s championship, while Sauber in seventh will have a battle with Toro Rosso as both teams are separated by only one point.

This year’s Brazilian Grand Prix might also be the last one for Rubens Barrichello. The most experienced F1 driver in competition at the moment should not keep his Williams spot, so a 20th season in the sport may be at risk. Still which better place to finish the career in F1 than in front of his home crowd?
