Renault opens online Twizy reservations

Renault has released the pricelist for the upcoming Twizy which will go on sale in Europe towards the end of 2011. However customers can make their reservations for the two-seater electric vehicle from now on.

Two variants of the Twizy are available for order. The first is the Twizy 45 which, due to being limited to 45 km/h, is able to be driven in certain countries without a licence. Renault says that its purchase price of €6,990 - plus €45 per month battery lease - makes it a more affordable and safer alternative for younger drivers than motorbikes.

The second Twizy model, known simply as Twizy, is available in either ‘Urban’ or ‘Technic’ spec for €7,690 and €8,490 respectively. Both also require a battery subscription fee of €49 per month and feature a 17 hp motor with 57 Nm of torque available at all times. This allows the more powerful Twizy to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The Twizy’s battery is said to fully charge in three-and-a-half hours, which will allow the vehicle to run for 100 km thanks to its low weight of 450 kg including the 100 kg battery.

The Twizy is currently on display at the Barcelona Motor Show. It is part of Renault’s Z.E. (zero emission) range that will include the Kangoo Z.E, Zoe Z.E and Fluence Z.E.

Wouldn't mind having one for going to work, but that lease on the battery is strange...

Why are these funny names popping up. Like Twingo, Twizy. Next some guy will start naming cars like Catz and milkshake.

Oh don't worry. When I start designing cars, I'll keep these names for myself.
