managed to finish the race in second place, but was eventually disqualified by the stewards for technical infringement in fuel flow. It was the end to a disastrous week for the Austrian team that saw four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel retiring early in the race with problems in his Renault engine. The German once again criticized the Renault engine which he accuses of lack of power and serious technical problems.

Kevin Magnussen finished the race in third place just behind Ricciardo, fighting to the end with the Australian for the second highest place of the podium. The rookie beat his teammate Jenson Button by 3.2 seconds. With Ricciardo's disqualification the McLaren drivers rose to second and third places and McLaren took the lead of the constructors world championship standings.
The top ten in the first race of the season was completed by Fernando Alonso, Valteri Bottas, Nico Hulkenberg, Kimi Raikkonen, Jean Eric Vergne, Daniil Kvyat and Sergio Perez.
