Finally, the Subaru BRZ is officially unwrapped. It and its twin, the Toyota FT-86, have been teasing fans of inexpensive sports cars for years now, and it finally looks like these cars are coming close enough to completion that the public gets to see what they will actually look like. Granted in this case, it is the concept for an STI version of the BRZ, but at least we finally get a realistic idea of this car.
The BRZ STI Concept shows what an STI version of the BRZ might look like. It has things like a wide-mouth front intake, carbon fiber roof, rear diffuser and big rear wing. None of these details will be on the standard BRZ when it comes out in a few months, but it is nice to see Subaru thinking about a future higher performance version.
Like the production BRZ, the STI Concept uses the direct injected, 2.0 liter boxer four-cylinder engine that Subaru developed with Toyota. The STI concept sits 120mm lower than a standard BRZ with the engine moved back 240mm. That means that the production BRZ will have a total height of 1520mm.
Subaru still plans to give the BRZ its full world premiere at the Tokyo Auto Show on November 30.
