Over the weekend, Top Gear held its Top Gear Live event in Durban, South Africa. The climax of the event was the first 720° loop ever completed by a car in public.
The loop was 26 feet tall, and Top Gear commissioned a custom buggy with hand throttle controls to keep the speed constant. The buggy had to be kept between 24mph and 26mph to keep it from going too slow and falling out or going to fast and putting too many Gs on the driver.
The video shows Clarkson, May and Hammond in front of a 15,000 strong crowd setting up the loop and then shows it from inside and outside of the car. The driver makes it look deceptively easy.
