After a month-long voting campaign, Toyota has announced that the official plural form of the Prius has been selected as ‘Prii’.
The campaign, which has been active since January 10, received over 1.8 million votes with 25 percent going to the winning entry. Narrowly missing out with 24 percent of votes was the notion of staying with ‘Prius’ as plural form, while other competing terms ‘Priuses’, ‘Prium’ and ‘Prien’ also missed out.
Advertising manager for Toyota, Colin Morisako, stated that the decision to hold a public vote was because “Community has always been a big part of the Prius brand, so it was only fitting that we invite the online communities to participate in the plural discussion”.
In addition to its official status, the term ‘Prii’ has also been recognized by Dictionary.com whose head of content Jay Schwartz was on hand at the Chicago Auto Show to inform the public that the site is now updated to reflect this.
The selection of ‘Prii’ as the official plural form of Prius has ended a decade-long debate over what to call more than one of the popular vehicle.
