Toyota first choice for hybrid and electric cars

Toyota first choice for hybrid and electric cars

An independent study has revealed that Toyota is the first choice for consumers when it comes to hybrid and electric vehicles.

The joint survey was carried out by Automotive Business Intelligence company EurotaxGlass’s and UK-based marketing and research institute Harris Interactive as part of their latest study ‘Electrification of the Automotive Industry – the European Consumer’s View’. It showed that thirty percent of those questioned expressed interest in hybrid or electric vehicles.

Toyota stood out as having the highest brand awareness of any company when it came to hybrids and electrics, with fifteen percent of participants citing Toyota when asked to name a hybrid or electric brand. Only 6 percent named the closest rival manufacturer. Furthermore Toyota’s hybrid flagship, the Prius, proved to be the single best known electric or hybrid vehicle with sixteen percent of survey participants citing it, while only 6 percent could name the closest rival model.

This survey brings great news for Toyota, as well as the hybrid and electric vehicle industry in general, as it concluded: ‘The openness of the consumer towards alternative powertrains is much higher than the current market shares of these powertrain types. And this is true across all the major European markets.’

Toyota is sticking with its philosophy that hybrid technology is the way of the future for the automobile industry, as it continues to roll out full hybrid technology across its main European model range. The company has sold 3 million hybrid vehicles worldwide.
