US Green Car of the Year Nominees Announced

The Green Car Journal has announced its nominees for Green Car of the Year, and it will announce the winner at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. The nominees are the Ford Focus Electric, Honda Civic Natural Gas, Mitsubishi i, Toyota Prius V and Volkswagen Passat TDI.

The interesting thing about this list is that seveal of the cars are not yet even available in the US. The Mitsubishi i, the i-MIEV in the rest of the world, will not be on sale to the public until January 2012. The Ford Focus Electric is only available in New York City and Los Angeles right now and will be rolled out through the rest of the country in 2012. The Honda Civic Natural Gas has been on sale since 2006 but has to be special ordered from dealers, and many consumers do not even know that it exsists. The Prius V and Passat TDI are the only cars that a normal consumer could reasonable purchase right now.

Natural gas hasn't been proven over here yet. Once the electric boom passes, a new age of developing better technology shall arise!
